What is a Privacy Policy?

A privacy policy is a document that explains how an organization handles customer, client or employee information gathered in its domain.

Most websites make their privacy policies available to site visitors. A typical privacy policy should specify any PII, Personally Identifiable Information gathered (name, address, credit card number, browsing history and any uploads or downloads). The policy should also indicate if information is shared with third parties, who those third parties are and for what purposes data is being shared.
